How to Prepare Your Home for a Relaxed Lifestyle Newborn Session (Spoiler: Don't Clean!)

Stressed your house isn't spotless or bright enough for newborn photos? Here is the zero-cleanup prep guide for families.

After 16+ years of photographing newborns across the Phoenix Metro—from ranch homes in Gilbert and Queen Creek to desert-modern estates in Scottsdale and Paradise Valley—I want to let you in on a trade secret: you do not need a spotless, magazine-ready home to get breathtaking newborn portraits.

As an in-home lifestyle newborn photographer, my entire approach is designed around your postpartum comfort. Here is the exact, stress-free checklist of what actually matters (and what you can completely ignore).

**Stop Cleaning Your House** If you're in your third trimester or holding a three-day-old baby at 2:00 AM wondering if your home is "ready," take a deep breath. After 16+ years photographing newborns across the Phoenix Metro, here is the trade secret: you do not need a spotless home.  As an in-home lifestyle newborn photographer, my entire approach is designed around your postpartum comfort.

1. We Only Use 3 Tiny Pockets of Your Home

We won't tour your whole house. 95% of your gallery happens in three spots:

  • The Master Bed: For intimate, unhurried cuddling against neutral pillows.

  • The Nursery: Capturing quiet, tender moments in the space you built.

  • One Bright Window or Living Room Sofa: Perfect for sibling hugs and whole-family connection.

2. What About Dark Rooms or Sunscreens?

Arizona homes often feature dark solar screens or deep covered patios. Don't worry about it. We simply open blinds in two rooms, I also have equipment that will do the job well.

3. The 10-Minute "Tuck-Away" Trick

Do not vacuum or scrub baseboards. Right before I arrive, we simply sweep water bottles, phone chargers, and burp cloths off the nightstands and toss them in a drawer. Done.

4. Thermostat & Feeding

  • Bump your AC to 75°F–78°F: Warm babies sleep better and stay calm during changes.

  • Never Rushed: My sessions ($750 Heirloom / $900 Complete Story) give us a full 2 to 3 hours. We pause whenever baby needs to nurse, bottle-feed, or be rocked.

5. What to Wear

  • Mom: Flowy linen or cotton midi dresses in cream, oatmeal, sage, or terracotta.

  • Dad & Siblings: Relaxed cotton henleys, neutral tees, or linen button-downs.
